Projects in 2008
DD with funding from AlertsFond from the Netherlands implements a project on climate change issues in Azerbaijan.
Description in short
Azerbaijan is becoming one of the biggest suppliers of oil and gas in Europe and it builds on it for future increase, which is having and will have an impact on the environment. The general public is unaware of the global warming danger and takes no actions. Responding to the needs of the youth and provide awareness we decided to develop an interactive website where the youth can learn, share and campaign about the approaching danger
Main goal
The goal is to provide accurate and accessible messages on climate change to target audiences, make the youth more aware of the climate change implications and motivate to take relevant climate friendly actions, and raise awareness of general public on climate change problems with easily understandable fact sheets
Achievements
1. Educational website http://climate.didev.org;
2. Translation of fact sheets into local Azerbaijani language from English and publishing on the web;
3. Publication of A4 print out containing information about the project, small facts about global warming, possible actions and on how to access the website;
Count to 5! Campaign
Digital Development became the winner of nGOmobile competition (information is available on www.ngomobile.org) with its Count to 5! Campaign.
2008 presidential elections are forthcoming in Azerbaijan and DD wishes using SMS to prepare civil society for it through Count to 5! Campaign. So, we’ll use phones to swing elections through innovative get-out-the-vote activities and wage campaigning for passive voters to show up for the elections. Also we shall use it to gather activists together and send media alerts to journalists. This initiative will help us to get-out-the-vote and contribute to fair and just elections in the country.
Methodology
Each person involved will send 5 SMS to other potential voter from his/her surrounding/relatives/friends etc. asking to come to vote and send the message to 5 more. The process should obtain a chain process and involve the most of potential voters in the country.
